In the field of biomedical imaging, technological innovation is continuously pushing the boundaries of diagnosis and treatment. Recently, a research team from Central South University published a study titled “Microfluidic-enabled aptamer-modified liposomal probes for targeted transient triplet differential photoacoustic imaging” in Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical (Read the original article here), demonstrating how microfluidic technology and 3D printing technology can be combined to prepare aptamer-modified liposomal probes for transient triplet differential photoacoustic imaging. This research is not only an academic breakthrough, but also provides a new method for the application of high-precision 3D printing technology in biomedicine.

Breakthroughs in 3D Printing Technology

BMF’s PμSL technology provided crucial technical support for this research. With its ultra-high-precision printing capability of 10 μm (product: microArch S140), it successfully manufactured microfluidic mixing chips, which are essential for the rapid synthesis and aptamer modification of liposomes.

Application of Microfluidic Technology

Microfluidic technology achieves rapid mixing and reaction of different liquid phases within micrometer-scale channels, significantly improving the synthesis efficiency and uniformity of liposomes. The application of this technology makes the processes of liposome and aptamer modification more efficient, providing clearer images and higher diagnostic accuracy for biomedical imaging.

A New Era in Biomedical Imaging

By modifying aptamers on the surface of liposomes, the targeting of liposomes can be enhanced, allowing them to be precisely delivered to specific cells or tissues. In cancer imaging, this targeted contrast agent can significantly  increase imaging specificity and improve diagnostic accuracy.

Application Prospects of 3D Printing

The success of this study not only demonstrates the potential of 3D printing technology in the biomedical field but also provides new opportunities for the commercialization of 3D printing technology. With continuous technological advancements, 3D printing will be increasingly applied in personalized medicine, rapid prototyping, complex structure manufacturing, and other fields.

BMF invites enterprises and research institutions interested in 3D printing technology to cooperate.
