Shenzhen, China — August 25, 2025 BMF APAC, a global leader in ultra-high-precision 3D printing, and MultiMatter, an emerging innovator in multi-material photopolymer additive manufacturing, today announced a strategic partnership to co-develop next-generation solutions for multi-material 4D printing. The collaboration will bring together BMF APAC’s micron-level manufacturing capability with MultiMatter’s centrifugal DLP material-switching technology to deliver industrial-grade systems that enable programmable, functional structures across advanced manufacturing sectors.
A powerful alliance for the next wave of intelligent manufacturing
Under the agreement, the companies will jointly advance a complete 4D printing stack within equipment, specialty materials, software, applications enablement, and training to accelerate adoption from research labs to factory floors. By combining BMF APAC’s production-proven PµSL (Projection Micro-Stereolithography) precision, already validated at 2-micron feature resolution in industrial environments. With MultiMatter’s centrifugal multimaterial switching technology, the partnership targets seamless fabrication of functionally graded, multi-material architectures at micron scales.
“This partnership is about turning 4D printing from possibility into production. Pairing our micron-level PµSL platform with MultiMatter’s agile, multi-material process unlocks smart, responsive parts that traditional methods simply cannot make,” said LinJian Xu, Head of BMF APAC.
“Multi-material behavior is the key to programmable matter. Our centrifugal multimaterial switching technology approach enables rapid, clean transitions between resins. When fused with BMF APAC’s precision and reliability, customers can manufacture complex, coupled mechanical–electrical–biological functions in a single build,” said Dr. Jianxiang Cheng, CEO of MultiMatter.
Why 4D printing,and why now?
4D printing integrates smart materials and stimulus-responsive design so that printed structures change shape or function under thermal, optical, electrical, or chemical cues. Despite its promise in medical implants, soft robotics, and adaptive aerospace systems, two barriers have slowed industrialization:
Microscale manufacturing precision for intricate lattices, channels, and thin-wall structures;
Reliable, high-throughput multi-material processing to couple distinct mechanical, optical, and electrical properties within a single part.
1) BMF APAC and MultiMatter directly address both challenges. The joint roadmap emphasizes:
Multi-Material 3D/4D Printing: Stable, repeatable fabrication with resolution down to 25μm.It supports simultaneous printing of 2 ~ 4 materials, enabling the efficient printing of both intra-layer and inter-layer multimaterial structures.
High-speed, clean material exchange: Centrifugal DLP switching and dynamic vat leveling for sharp interfaces and reduced cross-contamination.
Functionally materials: Photopolymers and composites spanning rigid resins, elastomers, hydrogels, shape memory polymers, and conductive elastomers.
Design-to-function software: Toolchains that encode deformation, actuation, and sensing at design time, enabling predictable 4D responses.
2) Building a full-stack ecosystem
Beyond hardware integration, BMF APAC and MultiMatter will offer a one-stop engagement model: equipment supply, co-development of advanced materials, application engineering support, software and workflow enablement, and operator training. This model is designed to shorten time-to-value for research institutions and industrial users alike, while expanding the boundaries of what is possible in 3D/4D printing.
